Strategic Cultures
Author Workshop at Goethe-University Frankfurt, October 5th, 2011
The book project aims at identifying commonalities and divergences in the strategic cultures of all 27 EU member states as well as Turkey and their impact on the future course of European security and defense policies. Understanding the basic aspects of security and defense policies across the EU, including the important partner Turkey, will help policy-makers understand the opportunities and limitations for collaboration in this policy field. At the same time, the project aims to make both a conceptual and empirical contribution to our understanding of strategic and security cultures across Europe.
The workshop brought together authors from these 28 countries to discuss the main analytical framework of this research endeavor. A second workshop organized by another partner in the project will be held in early 2012 to finalize the comparative publication.
The workshop took place on October 5th, 2011 at the Goethe-University Frankfurt. It was organized jointly by the team of the Bundeswehr Institute of Social Sciences (SOWI), Strausberg, that has the lead in the project on strategic cultures (Dr. Heiko Biehl, Dr. Bastian Giegerich, and Alexandra Jonas) and a team of the BMBF-funded research project Transformation of Security Culture (Prof. Christopher Daase, Julian Junk and Martin Schmetz).
Please contact Julian Junk if you have any further questions concerning the workshop.
